Our cold units have helped transport essential COVID-19 vaccines safely around the world, our 4PEOPLE office units have been used to create a temporary water treatment plant to protect urban areas against drought, and provide essential staff, such as those working with the Beriev Be-200ES at Elevsis Airbase Airport, so they were ready to take action when the fires started earlier this month.
We’ve all seen the terrible spread of the voracious wildfires that are eating their way through Turkey and Greece. The extremely dry weather and record-breaking heat, reaching 45C, has created the perfect environment for a raging fire. At the time of writing in early August 2021, over 2,000 people have been evacuated, homes and businesses have been destroyed, and firefighters from other areas of Europe are travelling to help fight the flames.
Back in June, before the severity of the current wildfires was known, TITAN Hellas was a part of the preparations for the upcoming hot summer season. The Greek Airforce invested in a temporary settlement build out of 7’ x 20’ TITAN 4PEOPLE and 20’ ST2086 storage units to house the staff, pilots, and technicians involved in the relocation of a Beriev Be-200ES aircraft.
The Beriev Be-200ES
The Beriev Be-200ES is an essential plane in the fight against wildfires; it’s a Russian multi-role amphibious aircraft that can scoop 12,000 litres of water from a body of water in just 14 seconds. That water can then be carried over a wildfire and dropped in one load or in 8. This plane was ready to fly from June 18th, so was ready to fight the flames when they broke out on the 3rd of August.
The Beriev Be-200ES has been instrumental in fighting fires since 2004 when it helped extinguish a fire in Italy. Since, these planes have helped fight fires in Sardinia, Portugal, Indonesia, Greece, Azerbaijan, Russia, Israel, Serbia, China, and Turkey, one of the areas most affected by fires this summer. The plane is also capable of transporting essential cargo or up to 72 passengers.
The Portable Site Office
The area was prepared with a base of hard-standing just outside the aircraft hangar and the TITAN portable office units were brought in on lorries and easily craned into place.
The units are fully outfitted with plumbing for hot and cold water, air conditioning, lights, and everything necessary to make the units habitable from the moment they’re made airtight. Shade cloths were attached between the units to provide additional shelter for the staff staying in the settlement.
