Whilst the cost of buying such a container may seem attractive there are many good reasons for considering renting or buying new or newer containers instead. The power and repair savings might probably pay for this. We offer

For those who maintain this is the right solution for their use we of course will do our very best to deliver value for money. Reefer containers are normally sold in "running condition" with valid PTI (Pre Trip Inspection).
The containers are typically 15-20 years old though can be younger and older. The entire life has normally been ini use for international transport and the body has typically been damaged and where essential repaired resulting in reduced insulation values. Doors can be subject to heat leakage due to damaged and deformed door gaskets and the T-section floor is not the most suitable for storage applications.
The refrigeration machinery will be just as old as the container and might be power inefficient (if compared with new technology refrigeration) and there can be issues with regards to long term reliability. Running condition in the depot before sale is the only guarantee given.

To be considered when buying a used reefer container:
- Insulation value of the container after damages and consider possible door air leakage.
- Awkward and difficult doors to open and close with low door handles making it even worse.
- An old and probably tired refrigeration machine with higher power consumption and questionable longer term reliability especially in areas (or periods) with constaltly high ambient temperatures.
- F gas compliancy may be an issue today or in the future.
- Possibly unreliable and uneven internal temperature due to warm spots and air/heat leakage.
- Unsuitable T-section floor for wheeled material handling and difficult to keep hygienic clean.
- Probably no data logger or self diagnostics through the controller.
- The long term running costs of power and repairs and low residual value.

Operating for many years, TITAN have some 20' and 40' refrigerated shipping containers that were delivered new 10-15 uears ago. Many of these have only been used for storage and are in much better condition than similar age containers used for shipping. We have also bought 5/7 year old containers that were in great condition. Together these are our PREMIUM fleet of better quality standard reefer containers available for hire in selected markets.
